These air fryer cuban sandwiches are one of my favorite things to make when I want something really satisfying without spending a lot of time in the kitchen. Crispy buttery bread, melty cheese, tender pork and ham – it all comes together in under 10 minutes.
If you’ve never had a cuban sandwich before, you’re in for a treat. It’s a classic combination of roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard pressed between crusty bread. Every bite has a little bit of everything.

The air fryer does an amazing job here. It gets the outside super crispy and golden while melting everything inside perfectly, almost like a sandwich press but easier.
You don’t need any fancy ingredients for this one. Just some good bread, quality deli meat, and a few staples you probably already have at home.
Whether it’s lunch, dinner, or game day food, these sandwiches always hit the spot. Let me show you how to make them.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Crispy Outside, Melty Inside – The air fryer gives these Cuban sandwiches that perfectly crispy, golden bread on the outside while melting the Swiss cheese into every layer of meat on the inside. It’s that pressed sandwich perfection without needing an actual sandwich press.
Great Way to Use Leftover Roast Pork – If you’ve got leftover roast pork sitting in your fridge from last night’s dinner, this recipe gives it a whole new life. It’s one of the tastiest ways to turn yesterday’s leftovers into today’s best meal.

Ready in Under 10 Minutes of Cook Time – Once your sandwiches are assembled, they only need about 7 to 8 minutes total in the air fryer. That’s way faster than heating up a skillet and pressing them on the stovetop, which means lunch is on the table before you know it.
The Flavor Combo Is Unbeatable – Roast pork, deli ham, Swiss cheese, tangy pickles, and yellow mustard all layered together is one of those combinations that just works. Every single bite has something salty, savory, tangy, and rich going on all at once.
Ingredients
- 4 Cuban Bread Rolls (or soft hoagie rolls, about 6 inches each)
- 8 oz Sliced Roast Pork
- 8 slices Deli Ham
- 4 slices Swiss Cheese
- 8 Dill Pickle Slices (lengthwise)
- 2 tbsp Yellow Mustard
- 2 tbsp Butter (softened)
How to Make
Step 1
Slice each cuban bread roll in half lengthwise. Spread a thin layer of yellow mustard on both cut sides of each roll.
Step 2
Layer each sandwich with 2 slices of ham, a generous portion of roast pork, 1 slice of swiss cheese, and 2 lengthwise pickle slices. Close the sandwiches.

Step 3
Spread softened butter on the top and bottom of each assembled sandwich.
Step 4
Preheat the air fryer to 360F. Place 2 sandwiches in the basket (work in batches if needed). Place a piece of parchment paper on top of the sandwiches and set a small oven-safe dish on top to press them down.
Step 5
Air fry for 4 minutes, remove the weight, carefully flip the sandwiches, replace the weight, and air fry for another 3-4 minutes until the bread is deeply golden and crispy and the cheese is completely melted.
Step 6
Slice each sandwich in half on a diagonal and serve immediately.

Tips
Pick the Right Bread
Cuban bread is the best choice here because it’s soft on the inside but gets really crispy on the outside when pressed in the air fryer. If you can’t find it, soft hoagie rolls work well too.
Stay away from bread that’s too thick or crusty like a hard French baguette. That kind of bread won’t press down properly and you’ll end up fighting with a sandwich that’s too tall and doesn’t get that flat, crispy result you want.
Soften the Butter First
Make sure your butter is actually soft before you try to spread it on the sandwiches. If it’s cold and firm, you’ll tear the bread apart trying to get it on there.

Leave the butter out on the counter for about 20-30 minutes before you start making the sandwiches. If you forgot, you can microwave it for about 5-8 seconds, but don’t let it melt all the way or it’ll just soak into the bread and make it soggy instead of helping it crisp up.
Put the Cheese in the Right Spot
Place the Swiss cheese directly on top of the roast pork, right in the middle of the sandwich between the meats. This way it melts down into the pork and ham and kind of glues everything together.
If you put the cheese right against the bread, it can melt and stick to the roll in a way that makes the sandwich harder to flip. Keeping it between the meats gives you the best melt and keeps everything in place.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I use if I can’t find Cuban bread rolls?
Soft hoagie rolls or sub rolls work great as a substitute. You want something with a light, airy interior and a slightly crusty outside that will get nice and crispy in the air fryer.
Bolillo rolls or even a soft French bread cut into 6-inch portions will also do the trick. Just avoid anything too dense or thick, since it won’t press down and crisp up the same way.
