If you have an air fryer and you haven’t tried making salmon in it yet, you’re missing out. It cooks the fish so well – crispy on top, tender and flaky inside – and it takes barely any time.
This cajun honey butter salmon is my favorite way to make it. The cajun seasoning gives it a nice kick, and the honey butter sauce on top balances everything out with a little sweetness.

It’s honestly one of the easiest dinners you can make. Season the salmon, air fry it, and whip up a quick sauce while it cooks. That’s pretty much it.
The ingredients are simple and you probably already have most of them at home. Nothing unusual or hard to find, just everyday stuff.
Serve it with some rice or a simple salad, and you’ve got a meal that feels way more special than the effort you actually put in.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Only a Few Ingredients Needed – You need salmon, cajun seasoning, butter, honey, garlic, lemon juice, and cayenne. That is it. No long grocery list, no hard-to-find spices, and no complicated sauces to prep ahead of time.
The Honey Butter Is Unreal – That combo of melted butter, honey, garlic, and cayenne creates a sweet-spicy glaze that melts right into the warm salmon. It honestly tastes like something you would get at a nice restaurant, not something you whipped up in your air fryer on a Tuesday night.

Perfectly Crispy on Top, Tender Inside – The air fryer gives the cajun-seasoned top of the salmon a slightly crispy crust while keeping the inside flaky and moist. You really can not get that same result as easily in a regular oven.
Sweet and Spicy Flavor Combo – The cajun seasoning and cayenne bring a nice kick, but the honey and butter smooth everything out so it never feels too hot. It hits that perfect balance where every bite has warmth and sweetness working together.
Ingredients
- 4 Salmon Fillets (6 oz each, skin-on)
- 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Salt
For the Honey Butter
- 3 tbsp Butter (melted)
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 clove Garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp Lemon Juice
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- Fresh Parsley (chopped, for garnish)
- Lemon Wedges (for serving)
How to Make
Step 1
Pat the salmon fillets dry and season the flesh side generously with cajun seasoning and salt. Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.

Step 2
Preheat the air fryer to 390F. Place the salmon skin-side down in the basket and air fry for 8-10 minutes, depending on thickness, until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and the top has a slightly crispy crust.

Step 3
While the salmon cooks, whisk together the melted butter, honey, garlic, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.

Step 4
As soon as the salmon comes out, spoon the honey butter generously over each fillet so it melts and pools around the fish.
Step 5
Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Tips
Dry the Salmon Really Well
Before you do anything else, grab some paper towels and press them firmly on the flesh side of each fillet. You want to remove as much moisture as possible from the surface.
If the salmon is still wet when you season it, the cajun seasoning won’t stick properly and you won’t get that slightly crispy crust on top. It only takes a minute but it makes a huge difference in the final result.
Use a fresh paper towel for each fillet so you’re actually absorbing moisture instead of just spreading it around.
Don’t Skip the Rest Time
After you season the salmon, the recipe says to let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. Don’t rush past this step just to save time.

Those 10 minutes let the seasoning absorb into the fish a little bit, so the flavor actually gets into the salmon instead of just sitting on the surface. It also takes the chill off the fillets so they cook more evenly in the air fryer.
Cold salmon straight from the fridge can end up overcooked on the outside and undercooked in the center. Letting it warm up slightly fixes that problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use frozen salmon in the air fryer for this recipe?
You can, but it works best if you thaw it first. Frozen salmon won’t absorb the Cajun seasoning as well and tends to release a lot of moisture, which means you won’t get that nice slightly crispy crust on top.
If you’re in a pinch, you can air fry it from frozen at 390F for about 12-15 minutes, but add the seasoning about halfway through once the surface has dried out a bit.
