This crispy, golden grilled cheese and ham sandwich comes out perfectly melty every time. The air fryer makes it quick, easy, and totally worth trying.
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder until well combined. Spread the garlic butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
Flip two of the bread slices butter-side down. Spread a thin layer of dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of each. Layer 2 slices of sharp cheddar cheese and 2 slices of deli ham on top of the mustard, then close each sandwich with the remaining bread slices, butter-side facing out.
Preheat the air fryer to 370°F for 2 minutes. Place the assembled sandwiches in the basket, making sure they don't overlap. Secure each sandwich with a toothpick through the center to keep the top slice from shifting during cooking.
Air fry for 4 minutes, then carefully flip each sandwich with a spatula. Cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the bread is deeply golden and crispy on both sides and the cheese is fully melted.
Remove the sandwiches from the air fryer and let them rest for about 1 minute - this lets the melted cheese set just slightly so it doesn't all run out when you cut into it. Remove the toothpicks, slice each sandwich in half diagonally, and serve immediately.
