Egg Bacon Toast Air Fryer Recipe

This egg bacon toast is one of my favorite quick breakfasts to make in the air fryer. Crispy bacon, a runny egg, and melted cheese all sitting on a thick slice of toasted bread.

It sounds like something you’d order at a brunch spot, but it takes about 15 minutes to make at home.

The air fryer does most of the work here. The bread gets perfectly golden and crispy on the bottom while the egg cooks right on top of it.

You only need a handful of ingredients and the whole thing comes together in one appliance. Minimal cleanup, maximum flavor.

If you’ve never tried cooking eggs in your air fryer before, this is a great recipe to start with. It’s simple, hard to mess up, and the results are honestly really good.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Perfectly Runny Yolks Every Time – The air fryer gives you that dreamy jammy yolk that is so hard to nail on a stovetop.

The Bacon Gets Unbelievably Crispy – Air fryer bacon hits different because the hot circulating air renders the fat perfectly without any greasy mess.

Everything Cooks in One Basket – You make the bacon and then the loaded toasts in the same air fryer so cleanup is basically nothing.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Thick-Cut Bread (brioche or sourdough)
  • 4 slices Bacon
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter, softened
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • Fresh Chives, chopped, for garnish

How To Make

Step 1

Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 2 minutes. Lay the bacon slices flat in a single layer in the air fryer basket.

Step 2

Air fry the bacon at 375°F for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Pour off any excess grease from the basket.

Step 3

Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each bread slice. Using the back of a spoon or the bottom of a small glass, press a wide, shallow well into the center of the unbuttered side of each slice – deep enough to cradle an egg.

Step 4

Thick-cut bread works best here because it creates a sturdy nest that holds the egg in place.

Step 5

Place the bread slices buttered-side down in the air fryer basket. Carefully crack one egg into the well of each slice. Season the eggs with a pinch of salt and black pepper.

Step 6

Air fry at 330°F (165°C) for 5 to 6 minutes, until the egg whites are just set but the yolks are still soft and runny. Keep a close eye starting at the 5-minute mark – every air fryer runs a little differently, and you want that perfect jammy yolk.

Step 7

Break or cut each bacon slice in half and lay the pieces on top of the eggs. Sprinkle each toast evenly with shredded cheddar cheese. Air fry for 1 more minute at 330°F until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 8

Carefully lift the toasts out of the air fryer with a spatula. Sprinkle with freshly chopped chives and serve immediately – the runny yolk, salty bacon, and melted cheese are best enjoyed right away.

Tips

Make the Well Deep Enough

When you press the well into the bread, make it wider and deeper than you think you need. Use the bottom of a small glass and really push the bread down so it creates a bowl shape.

If the well is too shallow, the egg will slide right off the bread and leak into the air fryer basket. You want the bread to cradle the entire egg so nothing spills over.

Brioche is softer and easier to press down, but sourdough holds its shape better once it’s in the air fryer. Both work great as long as you go with thick-cut slices.

Lower the Temperature for the Eggs

The recipe drops from 375°F for the bacon down to 330°F for the egg toasts, and that lower temp matters a lot. If you cook the eggs at 375°F, the whites will set too fast on the outside while the yolk overcooks before you even notice.

Savory egg bacon toast from air fryer

At 330°F, the egg cooks gently and evenly. This is how you get whites that are fully set with a yolk that’s still soft and runny in the middle.

If your air fryer runs hot, try 320°F instead and check at the 5-minute mark. You can always add more time, but you can’t undo an overcooked yolk.

Crack the Eggs Into a Small Bowl First

Don’t crack the egg directly onto the bread in the air fryer basket. Crack each egg into a small bowl or ramekin first, then gently pour it into the well.

This gives you way more control over where the egg lands. It also lets you catch any shell pieces before they end up on your toast.

Pour the egg slowly right into the center of the well. If you dump it too fast, the white will overflow and run off the sides of the bread.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to line the air fryer basket with anything so the egg doesn’t stick?

The buttered side of the bread goes face-down in the basket, which acts as a natural non-stick layer and also helps the bottom get golden and crispy. So in most cases, you don’t need parchment paper or extra spray.

That said, if your air fryer basket tends to stick a lot, you can place a small piece of perforated parchment paper underneath the bread just to be safe. It won’t affect the cooking at all.
