Air Fryer Baked Oats

These air fryer baked oats are one of my favorite breakfasts to make when I want something warm and filling without much effort.

You just blend everything together, pour it into ramekins, and let the air fryer do the rest. In about 15 to 18 minutes you get these perfectly golden, cake-like oats that taste way more indulgent than they actually are.

The banana adds natural sweetness and keeps everything moist, while the chocolate chips make it feel like a real treat.

It’s a great recipe if you’re tired of eating plain oatmeal but still want something wholesome to start your day.

This makes two servings, so it’s perfect for yourself and one more person – or just save the second one for tomorrow.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Tastes Like Dessert for Breakfast – The banana and chocolate chips make this taste like cake but it is actually a wholesome breakfast.

Ready in Under 20 Minutes – From blending to golden brown tops you only need about 18 minutes in the air fryer.

Perfectly Portioned for Two – The recipe makes exactly two ramekins so there is no waste and no leftover batter sitting around.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 1 Ripe Banana, mashed
  • 1/3 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 2 tbsp Chocolate Chips
  • Cooking Spray

How To Make

Step 1

In a blender or food processor, add the rolled oats, mashed banana, milk, egg, maple syrup, vanilla extract, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand.

Step 2

Spray 2 oven-safe ramekins (about 8 oz each) generously with cooking spray. Divide the batter evenly between them.

Step 3

Preheat the air fryer to 325°F.

Step 4

Place the ramekins in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 15 to 18 minutes until the tops are golden brown, set, and slightly puffed. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.

Step 5

Carefully remove the ramekins from the air fryer and let them cool for 3 to 5 minutes. The baked oats will settle slightly as they cool.

Step 6

Enjoy straight from the ramekin topped with fresh berries, a drizzle of nut butter, or an extra splash of maple syrup.

Tips

Blend the Oats Until Completely Smooth

You want to blend until the oats turn into a fine, smooth batter with no visible oat flakes left. If you still see chunks, give it another 10-15 seconds.

Leaving big oat pieces in the batter means the texture won’t be that soft, cake-like consistency that makes baked oats so good. It’ll feel more like regular oatmeal instead of a baked treat.

If you’re using a blender, pulse a few times first to break the oats down, then let it run continuously. A food processor works too but usually takes a little longer to get things fully smooth.

Use a Really Ripe Banana

The banana should have brown spots all over the peel. That’s when it’s at its sweetest and softest, which means it’ll blend easily and add more natural sweetness to the baked oats.

If your banana is still mostly yellow and firm, the batter won’t be as sweet and the banana won’t break down as smoothly. You might end up needing more maple syrup to make up for it.

A quick trick if your banana isn’t ripe enough – microwave it with the peel on for about 30 seconds. It won’t be exactly the same as a naturally ripe one, but it softens it up and brings out more sweetness.

Don’t Skip Greasing the Ramekins

The batter sticks badly to ramekins, even ceramic ones. Be generous with the cooking spray and make sure you coat the bottom and all the way up the sides.

If you don’t grease enough, the baked oats will cling to the ramekin and break apart when you try to scoop them out. It also makes cleanup way harder since baked-on oats are tough to scrub off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use quick oats instead of old-fashioned rolled oats?

You can, but the texture will be different. Quick oats blend down much finer and will give you a denser, more cake-like result instead of that slightly hearty texture you get with rolled oats.

If quick oats are all you have, they’ll still work – just know the final baked oats will be smoother and a bit more compact. Steel-cut oats, on the other hand, won’t blend well and should be avoided here.
