I never thought I could make ribs this good without a grill or a smoker, but here we are. These air fryer sticky BBQ pork ribs are one of my favorite things to make when I want something really satisfying without a lot of effort.
The whole recipe comes together with just a few basic ingredients. A rack of baby back ribs, some seasoning, BBQ sauce, and a little olive oil. That is all you need to get sticky, flavorful ribs on the table.

What I love about making ribs in the air fryer is how fast it is compared to traditional methods. You still get that beautiful sticky glaze and tender meat, just without the long wait.
Whether you are cooking for yourself or feeding a few people, this is one of those recipes that always delivers. It is simple, it is delicious, and it works every single time.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
No Grill or Smoker Needed – Not everyone has a backyard grill or a fancy smoker, and that’s totally fine. Your air fryer does all the heavy lifting, so you can make amazing ribs right on your kitchen counter.
Air Fryer Ribs Are Incredibly Fast – Traditional oven or smoker ribs can take hours, but the air fryer cuts that time way down. You get tender, sticky ribs without babysitting them all afternoon.

That Sticky BBQ Glaze Is Unreal – The BBQ sauce caramelizes beautifully in the air fryer, creating a sticky, slightly charred coating that tastes like the ribs came straight off a grill.
Fall-Off-the-Bone Tender – Baby back ribs are already a tender cut, and the air fryer circulates hot air all around them so they cook evenly. The result is juicy, pull-apart meat every single time.
Ingredients
- 1 rack Baby Back Pork Ribs
- 2 tbsp Sweet BBQ Rub Seasoning
- 1/2 cup BBQ Sauce
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
How to Make
Step 1
Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and slice the rack into smaller 2-rib portions to fit your air fryer.
Step 2
Rub the rib sections lightly with olive oil, then coat them completely with the sweet BBQ rub seasoning.

Step 3
Place the ribs in the air fryer basket meat-side down and cook at 375F for 15 minutes.
Step 4
Flip the ribs so they are meat-side up and cook for another 10 minutes until deeply browned.
Step 5
Brush the top of the ribs generously with BBQ sauce.

Step 6
Air fry for a final 3 to 5 minutes at 400F to caramelize the sauce into a sticky, delicious glaze.

Tips
Removing the Membrane Makes a Big Difference
On the back of the ribs there’s a thin, shiny layer called the membrane. If you leave it on, the seasoning won’t penetrate the meat and the ribs will come out chewy and tough on that side.

To get it off, slide a butter knife under one corner to loosen it, then grab it with a paper towel and pull it off in one piece. The paper towel gives you a good grip because that membrane is slippery.
If it tears halfway through, just grab the remaining piece and keep pulling. It doesn’t have to come off perfectly in one sheet – just get as much off as you can.
Cut the Ribs to Fit Your Air Fryer
A full rack of baby back ribs won’t fit in most air fryers, so cutting them into 2-rib portions is the way to go. This size lets hot air reach all sides of the meat so they cook evenly and get that nice browning all over.
Use a sharp knife and cut right between the bones. You can feel where the gap is by pressing down gently with the tip of the knife before you start cutting.
If your air fryer is on the smaller side, you might need to cook in batches. It’s better to give the pieces space than to cram them all in at once.
Don’t Skip the Olive Oil
The olive oil isn’t just there to keep the ribs from sticking. It helps the BBQ rub stick evenly to the meat, and it also helps the outside get that nice crispy crust as it cooks.

You only need a light coat – just enough to make the surface slightly glossy. Too much oil and the seasoning will slide right off instead of clinging to the meat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I remove the membrane from the back of the ribs before cooking?
Absolutely. That thin, papery layer on the bone side of the ribs can get tough and chewy if you leave it on. Removing it also helps the seasoning penetrate the meat better.
To peel it off, slide a butter knife under the membrane at one end, grab it with a paper towel for grip, and pull it off in one piece. It only takes a few seconds.
