Today I’m sharing one of my favorite snacks – air fryer crispy cajun chickpeas! They’re crunchy, full of flavor, and so easy to throw together.
If you’ve never tried making chickpeas in the air fryer before, you’re in for a treat. They get super crispy on the outside while staying just a little bit tender on the inside. Honestly, it’s hard to stop eating them once you start.

The cajun seasoning gives them a nice kick without being too spicy. It’s that perfect balance of savory and warm spice that makes them seriously addicting.
You only need a handful of simple ingredients and about 15 minutes. That’s it. No fancy tools, no complicated steps.
They work great as a snack on their own, on top of salads, or even in grain bowls. Pretty versatile for something so simple to make.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Crazy Easy to Make – You literally toss chickpeas with a few seasonings and pop them in the air fryer. If you can open a can and stir, you can make this recipe perfectly every single time.
Only 5 Ingredients – A can of chickpeas, olive oil, Cajun seasoning, salt, and garlic powder. That’s the whole list, and you probably already have most of these sitting in your pantry right now.

The Air Fryer Makes Them Perfectly Crunchy – This is one of those recipes that proves why air fryers are so great. The hot circulating air dries out the chickpeas and gives them an addictive crunch that’s hard to get any other way without deep frying.
Way Healthier Than Regular Snacks – Instead of reaching for chips or crackers, these Cajun chickpeas give you that same satisfying crunch with way more protein and fiber. It’s a snack you can actually feel good about eating.

Tips
Dry Them Really Well
This is the single most important step in the whole recipe. If your chickpeas are still damp when they go into the air fryer, they will steam instead of crisp up, and you will end up with soft, chewy chickpeas instead of crunchy ones.
After you rinse them, spread them out on a clean paper towel or kitchen towel and gently roll them around to absorb all the water. Spend a good minute or two on this. You want them to feel completely dry to the touch before you add the oil.
If you notice any loose skins peeling off while you dry them, just pick those out and toss them. Loose skins can fly around in the air fryer and burn.
Season After the Oil
Always toss the chickpeas with the olive oil first before you add any seasoning. The oil acts like glue and gives the cajun seasoning, salt, and garlic powder something to stick to.

If you add the spices to dry chickpeas and then pour the oil on top, the seasoning clumps together and you end up with some chickpeas that are loaded with flavor and others that taste like nothing. Oil first, then spices, and toss everything well so every single chickpea is coated.
Use a Single Layer in the Basket
When you pour the chickpeas into the air fryer basket, spread them out so they sit in one even layer. If they are piled on top of each other, the ones in the middle won’t get enough hot air and they will stay soft while the outer ones get crispy.
If your air fryer is on the smaller side and one can of chickpeas feels too crowded, it is better to cook them in two batches. A little extra time is worth it for an evenly crunchy result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to dry the chickpeas before air frying them?
Yes, drying your chickpeas is one of the most important steps for getting them truly crispy. After you drain and rinse them, spread them out on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and pat them dry thoroughly.
If there is too much moisture left on the chickpeas, they will steam instead of crisp up in the air fryer. Taking an extra minute or two to dry them really makes a big difference in the final texture.
